Nature's Own Oregon Broadleaf Maple
Live edge fireplace mantels (one and three piece)
See Fireplace Mantels
Live edge meaning - the leading edge of the mantel piece
and/or the uprights will be the actual outer edge of the
tree as it was growing, unique only to that tree.
As one can see in the photos, the live edges are all
different. To duplicate any one of these would be virtually
impossible. In addition to the live edge, there is always
some color tone differences and you will find many different
kinds of figuring, fiddle back, spalt, quilt and curly, although
not always together. Fireplace mantels are sanded and varnished,
with a minimum of two coats of marine spar varnish, or can be finished
to your specifications. The mounting and assembly is your
responsibility.

Again, any product can be custom ordered and built
to the customer's specifications, in thickness, length, width
and type of finish. Finishes might include natural or stained,
varnish or polyurethane, or even an epoxy, made to withstand heat
and liquid, depending on the application.
Other potential uses for maple, are as
Bar, Table & Counter Tops,
desktops, bookcases, and shelving. Our
Picture Frames and Entranceway Mirrors are also made from Broadleaf Maple.
The photo to the right shows both a mantle and a picture frame made from
Oregon Broadleaf Maple. The possible uses are only limited by the imagination.

Nature's Own Oregon Antique Fir
This is a Douglas Fir specie, and is typically old growth, with some characteristics
that occur naturally in the forest. Most is reclaimed,
or salvaged from the forest floor. High winds, stump rot and/or
forest fires all contribute to the toll, and after
recovering the fallen tree, we process it for the highest
and best use. Antique Fir is used for flooring, stair
tread and trim applications, we offer this prestained in
widths of 3" to 4". Nature's design in this species of
wood is unique. We have only enhanced what Mother Nature
has given us. For those who would like to venture out and
add some color, we will work with your color scheme. Finish
thickness will vary according to application. See
Flooring and
for more info and more photos.

Black Walnut
Sawn mostly for bar tops (sometimes with live edge), table tops,
shelving, inlay projects and carving. Black walnut, like Oregon
white oak, goes through a stabilizing process before going into
our dehumidifying kiln. This process ensures the stability and
reliability of the wood to stay in the shape an artisan may cut
it. The walnut is usually sawn for the interesting patterns and
figuring that it may naturally have. In all cases of sawing out
mantels, bar tops, and tabletops, the piece will be finished to
the customer's specs, here at our facility. For bar tops, we
recommend using a high grade of polymer epoxy, which is heat
and water stain resistant.

Oregon White Oak
Mostly all quarter sawn, for stability and the garyana ray speck
figure that shows on the wood when the grain is vertical. White oak was used by
craftsman, many years ago, and is found mostly in antique furniture and some pianos.
This figuring is becoming popular again. Keeping in mind that white
oak is very heavy, and that the live edge of the oak is not very
interesting, a straight plank-type mantle is usually the best
way to go. Again, as with black walnut, the lumber is put through
a stabilization process before going into the kiln. This ensures
reliability when it is finished.
